Vive tu vida como quieres recordarla

^^Last thursday was my 18th bday! My day started of really good, because my friends had a surprise for me.  After the second class they insisted on not going to class,  Ara blindfolded me and led me to the cafeteria where the others were waiting with a cake and then they sang to me it was too cute. I love my friends.

After school I went home quickly to get my stuff and then me and Ara left for Playa del Ingles, where we were spending my birthday weekend!

I pretty much only have photos from before we went out,the weather wasn’t the best because of this ongoing tornado so during the day we slept and spent time at the sauna and jacuzzi of the hotel and went out to celebrate during the night. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

That was 3 fun nights with my girl and a great birthday 🙂 Now it’s time to relax, because of the tornado warning the schools are closed at least for today, yay! Probably can’t go to football practice either.
It’s actually pretty bad, I just watched the news and my host mum said it’s the first time she has seen a red warning here. There’s really strong wind, floods, the schools are closed, planes and ships can’t leave, Trees and stuff flying around etc..And it snowed in Gran Canaria !

Chaooo<3

let’s stop time and enjoy this moment

More carnival celebrations yesterday! Left home early and went out for lunch with the family, then we went to see the “cabalgata infantil” which is this children’s version of the big cabalgata next weekend (cabalgata btw is a parade). This one was really short, the big one goes across the whole city. A lot of people wore costumes yesterday, Enrique was a ninja.Image

After that we stayed in Las Palmas for a bit because the traffic was crazy all around Santa Catalina and we couldn’t possibly get anywhere. After a while we tried getting out of there though as I really had to go home and change, and it took us an hour probably to even leave the city center. I was at home for like 20 minutes and than I ran to catch a bus back to San Telmo where I met with some friends and we all went to “mogollones” near the beach and the Auditorium. It’s this event where there is a DJ and food and drinks, just a big party with a lot of people. and many were wearing costumes. ImageImage

Hasta luego ❤

Fiesta

HOLA!

After a long week of training and studying I was really excited about this weekend, Friday I went out with Julia because she turned 18!!! Had a fun night.
ImageImage

Saturday I went out with Arabia!

Now it’s time to have a typical relaxing sunday at home 🙂 weather’s bad today so don’t even feel like moving anywhere from my room. And I realized I have many unwatched episodes of my favorite tv-show so I have some entertainment for tonight!

next week i’ll have to find something to wear for the carnival !! it started already this weekend, and it lasts around 1-2 weeks. They say the carnival here is the 2nd best one in the world so i’m looking forward to it 🙂

besos

learn to appreciate what you have, before time makes you appreciate what you had.

Hola!!

I was gonna post earlier but then my phone went all crazy and I couldn’t use it for like 2 days. Last weekend I was without internet for 3 days because my sim card didn’t work. Techonology is trying to drive me crazy..
Anyway. 🙂 The weather has been soo good (except for today) but last weekend was perfect, and I had a good time with Julia and Silvia in the city (:
Today I had a test in economy, i don’t really know how that went. Otherwise it was a pretty chilled day, we had 2 free hours because of missing teachers (our PE teacher has been gone for weeks, but there’s no substitute teacher “because of the bad economy”) So we were just chilling in the library. Yesterday we had a test in maths and health test this thursday. So many exams!!!!!

I love that boardwalk in the city. it’s really long and the view’s great. I really wanna go jogging there sometime!!

^^this is the cathedral in Las Palmas

Why Gran Canaria?
So many people have been asking me why I chose to come here so here it is! Well first of all,why I chose to go to Spain;  I didn’t really see any point in going to a english-speaking country as I study in English in Finland. Now I don’t know how it is with other organizations but with STS, Spain is one of the few countries where you can go on exchange without actually knowing the language before you go. For example with France and Italy they require that you have studied the language for a few years before you go.So those were out of the question… And I’ve been interested in Spanish for a some time, I started studying it in 9th grade. Not that I knew so much before I came. 😀

When you go to Spain with STS you can wish to go to a certain city (it costs tho).In the information pages it says you can choose between cities like Barcelona, Alicante,Cadiz, Valencia etc. I was thinking about these cities after I applied but I never really decided on one. Then later when I was reading about spain on the internet, I came across a blog of a girl who was an exchange student in Gran Canaria. That’s when I started thinking about how cool it would be to come here, I’ve always been a big fan of the Canary Islands haha. I asked the STS people if it was possible to go here,at first they actually told me no but later they said they would try to find me a family/school from here..and they did! What I like about being here is that the weather is nice all year, and there are not many other exchange students here like in those other cities. 🙂 The Canarian dialect was a bit confusing at first but didn’t take long to figure it out. It’s a beautiful island, although it’s a really small one. I’m glad they found me a family from here 🙂

Besitos ❤

Hola a todos

Wow, I haven’t posted in forever. I’ve just had a lot going on!
Last week in school was really stressful since we had a lot of exams, luckily this week it’s more chilled ! Also I started playing football again with that team I played with a while ago, because their coach changed and the new one lives nearby so no more transportation issues!
That means that basically I’ve got 6 practices a week now. I don’t mind, Coaching is fun and the other practices are kind of rough but the exercise is good and needed.

Image
Last week I got some stuff from Finland ohh how I’ve missed fazer’s chocolate! And I bought a new bag..again in El Mirador last week.
Oh yeah last week there was the general strike day, and I was watching the news about it on tv and i was actually kind of shocked how crazy things actually got. It wasn’t only in spain, they showed stuff about Greece, Italy and other countries too. But here in Las Palmas no public transportation during  the whole day, not many people went to school, and many stores were closed. In some places in Spain I saw a lot of bloody faces and people going all crazy and violent, blocking streets and ahh it was just crazy !!! Bad times over here…

I just looked at my stats for my blog and it’s cool how people from so many different countries have been here! I’m glad I decided to write in english. And i’ll try to post more from now on..
As for what i’m really here for, which is learning spanish, it’s getting better! i can actually have conversations in Spanish now with all kinds of people.Soon it’s been three months.. And i’ve enjoyed every second.

If someone reading this is thinking about doing exchange…DO IT. it’s an amazing experience. It’s great that although I’m 4665 kilometers way from home, I feel like I belong here.. This is my home now, too.

STS was always preparing us for the time when we are gonna start missing home and everything’s gonna feel really hard, but honestly I haven’t been that homesick. Of course I miss my family and friends so so much but I’ve enjoyed being here and I haven’t really thought about it ! People here have been surprised when I’ve said I’m not homesick and they wonder why I have this big smile on my face all the time but I’m so happy here and I wanna enjoy it as much as I can. 🙂

Another thing people often ask is if it’s not super scary to go to another country where you don’t know anyone and so on, but I really think it’s not that scary ! At least not Spain, because people here are soo nice and not knowing anyone is not a problem for long.
The first time I went to school I went with my neighbour Julia which  was a relief because that was a moment I actually was a bit scared of, but then when I had to change schools I had to do that whole “i dont know anyone” part too and that went just as well. I remember the first day of school I just went up to some people and asked if they’re in my class and where our lesson was. Not that scary. You have to be brave, and you definitely learn to be.

There are better things ahead than any we leave behind

Buenos días!

Got some inspiration to do a post about my apartment so I decided to do one this lazy Saturday morning.
As i’ve said before my host family’s house consists of two apartments so I live in the upper one all by myself. I spent a a lot of time downstairs with my host family tho of course,we always eat together there etc. But it’s nice having some own space.

 ImageImageImage
Soo I’ll start with my room! Miss my walk-in-closet and enormous piles of clothes back at home..I have so little stuff here Image  Image
All the books I have amt.. which is only one schoolbook and I got it from my friend. haven’t gotten around to buy all the books yet, I’ve survived on photocopies and friend’s books! but i’ll buy them soon..
Image
Image
I love having a bath tub..ImageImageImageImageImageImage
I don’t use this kitchen much, when I need to eat I go downstair.. I only have water in here.
ImageImage
There are even more rooms there, like a second bath and that bedroom above this photo that no one is using.. anyone wanna move in?
So that’s it.. Now i’m gonna go eat lunch and then I’m gonna go out in the sun! It’s a beautiful day, almost 30 degrees…and later I’m meeting friends for a movie night!
besos

¡Feliz Halloween!

Good Morning:)

No school for me today since there’s a hurricane and it’s crazy outside. Thursday&Friday we don’t have school either because of halloween! Today I woke up so early though, at around 6.30 already. I’ve been helping Enrique make halloween decorations this morning because he’s gonna have some friends over tonight.

ImageImageImage

Went to sit by the beach yesteday for a while. It was nearly empty although it was 30 degrees but it was so windy, all of the chairs outside the restaurants were just flying around.. Then I also went shopping (again) and later I took Enrique to a museum while Sari was working.

Estudiando..¡Qué aburrido!

Holaaa,

I’ve been really lazy with posting once again.. Haven’t done muchh this week just school and practice and been to the city a few times and yeaa i’ve been shopping!!! I’m in love with the stores here.. 🙂

Today I’m not going to football practice tho because I have 2 exams tomorrow so I’m staying home studying for those! Thank god it’s friday tomorrow!

Here are some stuff that I’ve bought lately.. I finally found a new bag !

Now back to studying 🙂 Hasta luego x

Buenos dias

Blogging from school atm because our two last lessons are cancelled, I have to wait for the bus for a while. At least I got some nice company.
We have had alot of skip hours these last couple of weeks! I don’t know where the teachers are… They never tell us that the lessons are cancelled though, we wait outside the classroom and after 10 minutes we leave. Also our class is gonna have a strike again for some reason, so on thursday we are not going to school.. We spent one whole lesson discussing this yesterday.. Im not quite sure why we are doing it.

So last night i went to football practice!!! The team seems really good and they were nice so i’m definitely gonna continue to play ! I don’t think language was such a big problem at practice, it was quite easy to figure out what to do. Today there is another practice. They are quite late, i get home at around 11pm.

The weather’s still awesome! Can’t say I miss the cold autumn in Finland.

Quisiera que parara de llover

Holaa ! I was gonna go out in shorts this morning until I opened the door and realized it was raining.. and it still is. The whole day in school I just pretty much ran from class to class haha 🙂 Luckily I got off at the right bus stop on my way home this time, last week I got off one too early.. 😀  Now I don’t really feel like going outside anymore !
After school I had some Spanish tortilla for lunch. The hours we eat at here takes some getting used too, since we eat lunch when I get home from school at around 2 and then dinner is not until like 9-10 !

These photos are from yesterday when I spent the evening in the city with some friends. The weather was awesome… Hoping it will be tomorrow again!
