Wow, I haven’t posted in forever. I’ve just had a lot going on!
Last week in school was really stressful since we had a lot of exams, luckily this week it’s more chilled ! Also I started playing football again with that team I played with a while ago, because their coach changed and the new one lives nearby so no more transportation issues!
That means that basically I’ve got 6 practices a week now. I don’t mind, Coaching is fun and the other practices are kind of rough but the exercise is good and needed.
Last week I got some stuff from Finland ohh how I’ve missed fazer’s chocolate! And I bought a new bag..again in El Mirador last week.
Oh yeah last week there was the general strike day, and I was watching the news about it on tv and i was actually kind of shocked how crazy things actually got. It wasn’t only in spain, they showed stuff about Greece, Italy and other countries too. But here in Las Palmas no public transportation during the whole day, not many people went to school, and many stores were closed. In some places in Spain I saw a lot of bloody faces and people going all crazy and violent, blocking streets and ahh it was just crazy !!! Bad times over here…
I just looked at my stats for my blog and it’s cool how people from so many different countries have been here! I’m glad I decided to write in english. And i’ll try to post more from now on..
As for what i’m really here for, which is learning spanish, it’s getting better! i can actually have conversations in Spanish now with all kinds of people.Soon it’s been three months.. And i’ve enjoyed every second.
If someone reading this is thinking about doing exchange…DO IT. it’s an amazing experience. It’s great that although I’m 4665 kilometers way from home, I feel like I belong here.. This is my home now, too.
STS was always preparing us for the time when we are gonna start missing home and everything’s gonna feel really hard, but honestly I haven’t been that homesick. Of course I miss my family and friends so so much but I’ve enjoyed being here and I haven’t really thought about it ! People here have been surprised when I’ve said I’m not homesick and they wonder why I have this big smile on my face all the time but I’m so happy here and I wanna enjoy it as much as I can. 🙂
Another thing people often ask is if it’s not super scary to go to another country where you don’t know anyone and so on, but I really think it’s not that scary ! At least not Spain, because people here are soo nice and not knowing anyone is not a problem for long.
The first time I went to school I went with my neighbour Julia which was a relief because that was a moment I actually was a bit scared of, but then when I had to change schools I had to do that whole “i dont know anyone” part too and that went just as well. I remember the first day of school I just went up to some people and asked if they’re in my class and where our lesson was. Not that scary. You have to be brave, and you definitely learn to be.
